The Omen jadedangel: [color=navy"> So .. is it all it was advertised to be?[/color">
Re: The Omen EssieDotCom: haven't seen it yet.
Re: The Omen MikeB: Okay... now this is officially the most boring movie I've watched in years!
Maybe it's because I'm not at all superstitious or religious...but I wasn't frightened for a second... not anxious to see what happens next... not even amused (bad horror-movies often amuse me)...
The plot is utterly predictable, they could have made the setting much more atmospheric... and the ending is completely unsatisfactory
It's not worth the money... wanna watch a good new horror-movie? - watch Silent Hill...
Re: The Omen walkingzombie: if you're not religious, or have a slight interest in the bible, especially the book of revelations, the movie is boring-
I happen to be interested in the bible and chrisitanity in general,
I saw all the original omen movies, and I thought this movie was excellent-
It was pretty cool how they incorporated current catastrophes as omens to the end of the world, like 911, and Katrina, and the tsunamis, it's only the first part,
I LOVED IT---
Re: The Omen MikeB: Well.. it's not that I'm not interested in chrisitanity or religion or the bible...I've read it... (I just have an aversion to it)...
And I'm interested in psychology... so I generally like to analyze how books, movies, cults (and religions) use primal fears, superstitions and wishes to evoke a specific response... that's why I watched this movie...
And this can be done very effectivly, subliminal and interstingly...(like "Saw" or "Silent Hill" - like Auster's "City of Glass", Goethe's "Faust", Dick's "Do Androids dream of electronic sheep" or Stanislaw Lem's "Solaris" and so forth) (I even liked the DaVinci code because of this... albeit the book more than the movie)
I just think with "The Omen" there was too little atmosphere (e.g. they could have picked a more orchestral sountrack, make the setting darker and more nightmarish - as for example the office in "The Devil's Advocate" )... and the playing with peoples fears wasn't subliminal in any way...
The way they incorporated current catastrophes and related them to the book of revelations -- was the only part of the movie that made me giggle... I mean... catastrophes like these have happened frequently in history... it's not like these are more "special" than all the catastrophes in the 20th century, the 19th or any other before... to make this really frightening, they would have had to come up with a good theory as to why these current catastrophes are different from all the others in history...
But in the end... I think I can understand why people can like this movie...It's just not for me... :)
