These songs... watwat226: I always listen to songs. But until after the break-up I never really 'listened' to them. Before, songs were just melodies to me, something that sounded nice. But now for some reason I pay close attention to the lyrics also. I find that a lot of my favourite songs are about love and missing it/wanting it back. It's quite depressing really.
I have tried not listening to those songs anymore, but why should I stop listening to the songs I like because of that hey? So as I sit here, lisitening to my favourite songs about love gone wrong, I don't have that sickening feeling in my stomach anymore. I will not let this get me down.
Anyone with similar experiences with songs?
Re: These songs... Amor: I know exactly what you feel. My favorite music happens to be 70's/80's love songs. Believe me, there's some sad ones.

You're on the right track. Don't let anyone own these songs you like. They are your songs. This is your music.
Re: These songs... brokenbaby: I actually stopped listening to music for awhile. It was the only way for me to know that in the future I would not associate the music I like with this very difficult period in my life.
I listen more now and find that the meanings of stuff I listened to before is are very different and I hear the lyrics of new stuff in a different light.
Re: These songs... sosad05: I agree. Until now, I never realized how many songs are about break-ups, lost love...etc. Its amazing. I can identify with so many of them. I would have to think many of the artists who compose these songs have experienced similar losses.
Re: These songs... LostTeacher: i used to listen to a lot of country music, but found that i couldn't listen to it as much, because too many reminded me of what was going on in my life.
there has been a lot of stuff i don't listen to as much anymore.
when i was moving, i found a cd my sister made for me for my wedding. it was filled with love songs that i was trying to choose from for my first song. i spend about an hour listening to it, crying.....and then i broke it into a bunch of tiny pieces, and threw it out!
was very liberating.
