Re: one year post-break-up larry: I agree with Fiona and am trying to do that myself.  My situation seems so trivial compared to some of yours, but the result and necessity to move on and be happy with yourself again is synonymous to everybody.  Just remember you have people here for support that you can lean on who won't judge you or criticize you.  :)
Re: one year post-break-up nidra: Oh, I so totally relate to your post. Most of my friends at school have SOs. I envy them for being able to focus on and care about our work because everything is fine in their domestic lives. I, on the other hand, resent having to think about theoretical things that mean absolutely nothing to me when my personal life is a complete wreck!

It took about 2 semesters before I got back into my school work. You'll get back there; it just takes time. Just remember to not be too hard on yourself. I was fortunate enough to have a fellow grad friend constantly remind me, "WTF do you expect!!??? You JUST got divorced!" As obvious as that was, it was nonetheless a major comfort to me to hear someone else who had his sh@t together telling me I was expecting too much of myself in terms of being "into" school work.

Grad school is hard enough. Add a major break up to it and the difficulty multiplies!
