Re: Worried about Court- Help e-blogger: if one doesn't have any children, do they still have to go to court?  I'm asking for my stbx husband to pay for our marital debt - $10,000 and for support.  ;)

Do I have to go to court? I really really don't want to see him.  I haven't seen him since April 1st - and that was when he stormed in to take the cat away from me.  :'(

I think it depends on the state, and perhaps on the circumstances too.  I was told I do not have to.
Re: Worried about Court- Help LostTeacher: in canada, or at least here, i did not have to go to court.
we settled everything thru lawyers, and it was all done thru paperwork between lawyers.
it helped that we didn't have kids, and that i gave up almost everything, but it made the process easier, and it meant no face-to-face encounters.
the last time i had physical/face-to-face contact with him was april 2005, when we finished our paperwork for selling our truck.
not dealing with him in person was the best thing that i could have ever done.
