Re: Are you on the right track? snkpack: I'm stuck in the rut where I have a really stable job that pays a lot, but it isn't what I'm passionate about.  I want to switch to a career I've always wanted but right now with the kids, stability and income is more important to me than the happiness of doing what I love.  Once the kids are gone, I think I'll be okay with taking the risk of making a switch.

Sounds like a level headed plan there.

I understand this totally.  I have a plus in that I love what I do currently.  My job offords me the luxury of taking the next step at a point in time of my own choosing.  The problem is.. I gotta get off my ass and start moving my foot.

I don't plan on being here forever.  I don't think I'm wasting my time staying here cause it does put food on the table.  As for destiny.. well I feel one day when I'm ready I'll move on.  Just not now.. I'm tired and need to rest a bit.
Re: Are you on the right track? fmtw2k: My career is on the right track, but I am still working on my new 'priorities' and goals for my personal life. I feel like the rug had been taken out from under me and I need to decide what I want the rest of my life to be like.

My dad's fav. phrase: Life is what happens while you're busy making plans...I always try to think of this so I enjoy the present more!
Re: Are you on the right track? ctrlaltdelete: I would LOVE to have a different career, but unfortunately am currently a slave to the good pay, security and benefits. If it were just me, I'd stash some $$ away and then quit and do what I really want to do.

I want to be a geologist that studies earthquake zones OR fly in those hurricane planes taking readings around the eye of the hurricane OR be one of those crazy people who walk on volcanic flows and gather samples. I think that sounds like the most awesome job, but how in the heck do you land a job like that? They probably don't advertise on CareerBuilder.com.  I can see it now "Wanted: Death-Defying Lava Collector"  Kind of changes things when you have to be the responsible adult and stay alive to raise your kids. <sigh>
