Terrified of dating?
.

Terrified of dating? bardlain: So, is anyone else totally terrified of dating?  I wouldn't ever do it if I didn't need companionship (and, um, "companionship").

I am just not sure how I will ever jump into the pool.  I'm more of a wader; can you wade into dating?  I realized Tuesday (when I was asked out 3x-- a total fluke) that I subconsciously make plans with my group of friends (my little "urban tribe") most days of the week so that I always have an excuse not to go out.  "Sorry, busy."

I love my friends, and we all have noted that we are a "sure thing"; we know we'll have fun with each other, but I wonder if I am using them as a crutch.  Is it because I feel as if I am "damaged goods" right now, or am I just always going to be afraid?! Fear is not something I feel often: only when I think of being alone for the rest of my life or of dating!
Re: Terrified of dating? Lumpy:   I'm not sure that qualifies as being terrified. If you have more fun hanging out with your friends than you would on a date it's a no-brainer.

Re: Terrified of dating? bardlain: Well, the problem is, I suppose, that I could potentially have more fun on a date, but I am afraid to go on them to find out! LOL.

Just wondering if I'm the only sissy out there when it comes to the whole "what do I wear/does (s)he like me/what if one of us isn't that attracted/what do I say (not usually a problem for me), etc...."
Re: Terrified of dating? 2be: Yep, you're the only one, ya freak!  ;) :D

No, I think it is natural to feel this way to some degree. That being said, I think you ARE putting way too much weight into it.  It's hard enough without having to second-guess what the person may or may not like, accept about you, etc.  Just be yourself... dont change yourself to suit anyone... and POOF the pressure is gone.  If they enjoy your company then great!

Good luck... ;)
Re: Terrified of dating? Deadfish: Yeah, if you try to be someone you're not, then you'll end up with someone who doesn't like you for YOU, and you won't like them because they don't click with your REAL self. Does that make sense?
