Business casual attire
.

Business casual attire superwife: It is back to school for me (teaching, that is it).  So my dilemma is back.  What to wear?

Almost all of my colleagues are....well...older.  Their attire is quite different than what I invision myself wearing.  I can't do the suit thing (I look like a kid playing dress up).  And quite frankly, I'd rather be a little stylish (but being conservative, to an extent).

The other problem is my budget.  It is tight, to say the least.

I was wondering what others wear to work, and where do you shop.  Technically, I should not be wearing sandals (in the hospital, health violation without hosiery), so that makes capri pants difficult.  i am doing the skirt thing, but still need appropriate footwear (damn I love sandals)
Re: Business casual attire td7629: Hi Superchick... I love clothes.. Unfortunately, sometimes I do have to get dressed up in suits for work when I am meeting with clients and so forth but when I do not have meetings.. I love wearing skirts, maybe a nice pair of boots (not gogo boots or anything..LOL) and a nice shirt.. it always looks nice.. and stylish.. just a suggestion..

Re: Business casual attire tara: I'm a student again, so I can wear whatever I want (although I think I'm a creature of habit, because I've only worn jeans on Fridays), but when I worked in a business-casual environment, I wore a lot of skirts (and sandals, sorry). During the winter, though, I wore cords/slacks and sweaters (usually with boots).

How about mules? Target has some decent ones, and they cover the toe and can be worn with or without hose.
Re: Business casual attire clambakesX: Ah, wow.  That's a challenge.

I really blew it on the clothing front for my current project.  All I had was dark suits, so I mostly mixed and matched instead of wearing suits, and I found a brighter jacket on sale.  Well, now I read advice to someone in a similar situation, and realize the advice is straight-on: I should have worn lighter-colored, sporty-styled suits.  My attempt to go more relaxed by pairing black jacket with slate-blue skirt didn't come across as casual at all.  Argh.  I now have a dark cool-brown suit, which reminds me of the John Collins Bossidy misquote, And this is good old Boston, The home of the bean and the cod. Wear blue or black for business, and brown when talking to God - because no one else will listen.

Um, as for your challenge ... what did you wear last year?

If you feel you could use a bit of authority in your image, I recommend working some tailored jackets into your wardrobe.  And some conservative accessories ... td7629 hit one of my favorites with her suggestion of boots.
Re: Business casual attire Crystal_Blue_024: I usually wear dress pants (different styles & colors) and cute tops... That's about the extent of it... I only wear skirts and/or suits if I have a client meeting...
