Yes, I believe in the seatbelt laws, too.  I buckle up every time I get in the car.  Seatbelts save lives more often than they hinder it.
[/quote">

I was a paramedic for 8 years, I know the value of a seatbelt and I wear mine 100% of the time. The point here is look at we both said, "I" wear my seatbelt. So why does your good judgement require a law? Why not let Darwinism run it's course? If someone wants to use poor judgement and not wear it why not let them? We are all adults afterall.
To put it in perspective, you should want to make cigarettes and all fried foods illegal as well, about 500,000 more people die a year from heart disease than they do from accidents of all types, including motor vehicle accidents. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in america, yet people want to outlaw firearms and force you to wear a seatbelt. The Big Mac? No problem there.

I am not trying to belittle your opinion, just trying to give you a new perspective on your thinking. I don't smoke, don't do drugs, wear my seatbelt, and eat healthy. But those are the choices I have made for myself. Other adults should be able to choose as well.
[/quote">

Like you said, my opinion is based on the concept of "I."  I wear my seatbelt, I don't prostitute myself for money, my cholesterol level is actually "too" low, but I do smoke.  My opinion is based on my perspective and that's why it's called my opinion.

Actually, a lot is being done to counter obesity and heart disease.  The schools around here just put into effect their own little "laws" banning unhealthy snacks from being brought into the schools for events such as birthday parties, etc.  Gone are the days of sending in cupcakes for your kid's birthday to share with the class.  The menu in the school's cafeterias have completely changed as well.  Do I agree with it?  Yes and no.  I send my son to school with a healthy packed lunch so it doesn't really affect us, per se, but in this case, I think the school is infringing on parents' rights to make those decisions on what they feel their children should eat.  The parents need counseling if they aren't feeding thier children properly.  Instead of looking at it that way, the schools just bypass that and decide what your kids can eat while at school.  But I said yes and no.  So I understand that some parents just don't care about thier kids health probably because they don't care about their own.  So yes, in some cases, it probably is a good idea that the school is interceding.

As far as prostitution goes, I just believe it's wrong period.  I don't care what benefits come from it....it shouldn't even exist in my opinion.  Women/Men who sell thier bodies receive NO respect from me.  ZERO!  So no, I don't agree with legalizing it to make it safer for them.  They shouldn't be doing it in the first place.  And all that BS that Shey spouted doesn't sway my opinion either.  My parents chose my spoiled sister to fight over and put through college....a private expensive college.  So when it came my turn, I didn't have any parental monetary support.  Did I sell my body for the cash?  Um, no.  I'm smart enough to go to college, I'm smart enough to know there are other options.  Instead I ate jars of peanut butter and drank from the school water fountain for months while working as a waitress making $2.35/hr.  There are always other options.  In most cases, prostitutes don't do it because they want to, but because they feel they have to.  So using one is just leading to thier demise.

You have your opinion, and I have mine.  ;)
