Re: Being Alone crushedman: How about getting a dog?  I'd recommend a German Shepherd, they are the most loyal breed I ever owned.  Plus they are extremely intelligent and easy to train.  One of those dogs would die for you in a second--  if I was a would be thief or rapist, I wouldn't want to tangle with one.

Re: Being Alone faraday: I am thinking about that- I can shoot a gun really well but I will not put one in the house with my child so that is out of the question- I need to assure myself somehow that if anything happened I could take care of us both and get help- it is a huge insecurity thing and it frustrates me

Re: Being Alone surprised: My sister has a huge german sheperd, when I was playing with her son one day, she didn't like the game we were playing and she came and stood in between us and looked at me like, don't you mess with my boy!  And she knows me, I am over there almost everyday.  So a dog might help.

I live alone now, and I was a little freaked out for the first few months, I used to block the basement door with a chair, 'just in case.'  But with time, I got more comfortable, and I don't really get so nervous anymore.  But I would recommend a self defense course, too, I never took one, but I always wanted to.  It seemed so empowering, now might be a good time to look into it for a lot of us.

I have a problem being alone at night stemming from a very bad experience- I get very nervous and paranoid when I am at home alone at night- I can't shower or sleep and it is worse when it is me and my daughter alone- so my question is does anyone on here have similar problems and if so do you have any good strategies for dealing?  I mean, this is probably in my cards the way things look right now so any advice would be more than welcome- thanks

Bring your daughter into the wwashroom with you... tell her to read you a book and talk to you about her day....

When you find your place get a dog, or an alarm system, thats cheaper!
I hope your ok... you really need to talk to someone about your fears!
Re: Being Alone faraday: Feel- I Pm'd you earlier- I do talk to someone every week- its just that there are alot of them from a long time ago- I had allowed myself to push them aside and not deal and now i am paying for it
