Re: Becoming a firefighter gdaisygirl: Dear Mariher,

Smiley is exactly right.  If you are in good health you should pass that exam just fine.  Have faith in yourself and tell yourself that you can do this :)  I believe you can.  Let me know how things work out.  I think if you love helping people this will be so rewarding for you.

I have often thought about getting back into the EMT, volunteer firefighter career again.  It was a bit hard years ago because my children were young and I was on call but now I have much more flexibility with getting a call at the last minute and having to leave.

Keep me informed!  Don't get discouraged, Believe in yourself!  :)

Re: Becoming a firefighter mariher: I'm gonna go for it, thanks!!

Re: Becoming a firefighter Whirlpool: If you are getting in it to help people and are intimidated by the fire thing you can try EMS. Becoming an EMT is pretty fast and easy, and finding a job even easier. If you like it you can move on to paramedic which is much more challenging. I was active in EMS for 8 years. My ex was a firefighter and was not a big woman, she did it. Unfortunately you will face more challenges due to your gender than you will your physical and mental abilities, firefighting is still a good ol' boy profession. At least down here. If you want it go for it, get a strength trainer asap though, most female washouts I have heard of are from lack of upper body strength.
Re: Becoming a firefighter quiet1: Firefighters are such heros! Good luck, I hope you get in and luv it!
