Day from hell ATLfoodie: So, I am at work and everything was clipping along. We were cleaning up the warehouse when my cell phone rang. It was a lady from the Gwinnett County DFACS (Dept. of family and Child Services). She proceeded to tell me that my kids were in there custody. She didn't know why they were placed in custody, just that they were. I tell my boss all I know and am rushed out the door to find out whats going on. I proceeded to call my ex to find out and another number given to me by DFACS. No answer.
A little background here. My ex is going through a nasty divorce with her stbx. During the court proceedings, they are both drug tested. She's clean and he tests positive for cocaine. She flips out and the judge orders a psychiatric evaluation for both. This all happened on FRIDAY!!!!! I was wondering why I couldn't get in touch with anyone this weekend. It was my weekend for the kids and I did not see them. None of my calls were returned.
So, I arrive at the juvenile court building around 2:15. There are 6 lawyers involved in the proceedings. I end up having to hire my own attorney to protect MY parental rights. We are finally brought into the court room at 4:50. Within a minute, all the attorneys are called to the bench and the to chambers. We wait 50 minutes when they tell me I have to hire my own attorney which I did. After a lot of legal manuevering and back deals, we were able to make progress. Things finallly worked out.
Bottom line is I have my kids tonight. They don't have to spend another night in foster care.
What I am really pissed about is that I wasn't called on Friday when all this started. My ex's attorney allegedly slandered me to the judge. This is the same attorney that represented my ex in her case against me 4 years ago and was drubbed. I am pissed at him, DFACS, and I lit into my ex for not telling me. I now have to go back to court at the end of the month to find out about the psch evals. If they come back unfit for my ex, then I have more court appearances for custody.
I'm just glad my kids are home with me tonight. Poor souls were exhausted.
Re: Day from hell fly: Thank goodness your children have you. You poor thing
Re: Day from hell Melbel: Honey,
I am sorry and I am glad the babies are home with you tonight! I am glad that I was able to be (kinda) there and help you. You already know how I feel and think about this so I won't say anything I have already told you but I am here! I know you know that but you mean alot me and I want to be there for you and I know you will let me! Give the kids a kiss on the head for me and get some sleep!

Re: Day from hell Plucky: Those poor babies. I'm so glad that you got them safely home. I can't imagine how terrified they were.
Re: Day from hell ATLfoodie: The real kicker is DFACS didn't know I existed until my daughter gave them my number.
