I think sleeping with someone (or continuing to sleep with them) once you know that they have a relationship like that with an ex and a child (and that they are trying to work it out) is the problem, because then you start developing feelings for them and they can't really reciprocate because of their position in life. Heartbreak situation.
Remedy: Find new penis.

My therapist has done some work with me, like urging me to make my life my OWN, getting involved in school, etc. Trying to get me to see that my life can be COMPLETE without a significant other, guess I'm just resistant to accepting that...

It is a problem if one of the parties can't deal with the fall-out when it becomes only about sex.

Fair enough. My comment doesn't account for that fact. If you're going to get all goofy about someone after sleeping with them, maybe wait longer.
