My STBX is kind of the same way. He was miserable at his job, then he got a new one with more money. His mom was diagnosed with Cancer, she got treatment and now she’s clear. He was irritated at his weight, he lost 50 lbs. But none of that made him realize where his happiness needs to come from.
When we seperated 3 1/2 weeks ago (wow, it’s been 3 1/2 weeks!), I tried to explain to him that no amount of material possessions or even family or friends (including a new woman) could be the source of his happiness. He had to find that within himself and everything else would fall into place. Your STBX and mine will continue to go around in a circle, chasing their tales (so to speak) until they realize what we already know. It’s just a shame that we have to go through the pain of their tail-chasing.
