Paxil and Alcohol cdoulatiff: Has anyone had any experience with taking Paxil and drinking?
Re: Paxil and Alcohol twetifb: I've never taking any anti-depressants but my ex was on paxil for years and was advised not to drink, although he did. The alcohol zero'd out the positive benefits of taking paxil and caused him to become more depressed and withdrawn. When he wasn't drinking, there were positive signs that the paxil was helping his depression but as soon as he began drinking, you could see a negative change in him. He would have almost been better just drinking and not taking the paxil because then it would have been a steady low rather than the roller coaster of highs and lows.
Sorry I'm not being more helpful, just sharing my experience. Mixing anti-depressants and alcohol is never a good idea, imho.
Re: Paxil and Alcohol Crystal_Blue_024: Most anti-depressants direct you to NOT drink alcohol with them... I'm on Lexapro and it says "do not consume alcohol while taking this perscription." I still drink occasionally on the weekends, but I'll only have a couple of drinks, I don't get smashed.... If you have an occasional drink, you'd probably be fine... But if you can stay away from alcohol all together (since this is a new drug for you) that would be the best idea...
Re: Paxil and Alcohol katbuttkid: Wish I knew what to tell ya.
But you know my opinion about anti-depressants.... I agree with tweety on this... unless a person thinks he/she might have alcoholic tendencies or an addictive personality/think he/she might abuse alcohol-- then drinking is contraindicated for self-medication of management of moods-- I think it's better to leave your system alone, let yourself heal, and drink when you feel like it...
Re: Paxil and Alcohol cdoulatiff: I only drink with friends...ie...tailgate parties, poker, the weekend, occasionally dinner.... but I'm still worried about any effects it might have.
