Better than Star Trek! Laura35: In view of seeing a conversation in a highjacked thread, I just had to respond with a little comment on a show that, I think, is boldly going in directions that Star Trek has never dared to go and quickly becoming the best sci-fi tv show that at least I have ever seen.
I'm talking about Battlestar Galactica. If you haven't seen it, don't start watching now when season 3 is going on - rent it and see it from the beginning because you won't like it if you see it out of context.
It's based on the really crappy older show but it's nothing like it.
Why I like it?
First of all, they are not afraid of killing, changing, upgrading or downgrading characters through the show. A non-presence character (the kind that O'Brien was in STNG) can become a few episodes later a major character. Also, likeable characters can become unlikeable and the other way around - because the show doesn't seem afraid that the audience is getting attached to something about a character that can't ever be changed unless they're temporarily abducted by the Borg.
Then, visual effects are impressive - more real looking ships than ST ever had, and also there aren't rubber aliens running around.
And also the actors are allowed to change lines to make the characters more realistic (speak like the actors speak so they can play more naturally).
And you really never know what's going to happen next.
Anyway. I just wanted to recommend it for people who haven't already been watching it.

Dr. Phil has better story lines than Star Trek.
Springer has better actors than Star Trek.
Teletubbies has better special effects than Star Trek.
K-Fed has more talent than the cast of Star Trek combined.

Number #1 you have to put things in their proper perspective. The original show was ground breaking. I can't think of another Sci-Fi show at that time outside of Lost In Space. As far as K-Fed goes, Uhura did have the Popozao!
