Thanksgiving Mooneyes: I'm really pretty sensitive when it comes to my family, and the fact that they have mostly abandoned me. So insensitivity regarding the holidays bothers me alot. This year I am far enough away from my family to use distance as an excuse, but the fact of the matter is, i have enough time off I could get home for Thanksgiving or Christmas... however I don't have any place to go. My family life suddently changed at the same time I lost my husband (due to deaths in the family). So now I don't have anyone to share holidays with.. not even friends.
I think I can deal with being alone, but insensitivity about this upsets me. I have just been asked to give up my room one night this week for my roommates' mother, because they don't want to go pick her up (20 minutes away) on Thanksgiving. I am scheduled to work until 1am that night. Then I'll come home and not have a place to decompress, then I'll get woken up early.. because i'll be sleeping in the middle of the house. I know I should be thankful I have a place to sleep. But I feel this was insensitive of my roommate. It isn't like she is offering her bed. So now I've got annoying things happening on a day I was already dreading.
Re: Thanksgiving goldman: Say no?
Your roommate should give up her bed for her company.

Exactly. It's your apartment, too. Not just hers. She knows your schedule/plans. Tell her no.
Re: Thanksgiving Melbel: Moon I think you need to stand up for yourself here!
A 20 minute drive is nothing...wanting you to sleep anywhere other then your room is selfish and asking alot of you to give up when she is clearly not willing to give up a little time to go and pick up her own mother.
Re: Thanksgiving allmusic76: Hey moon,
I'm sorry. I know the feeling. I have nowhere to go really on turkey day too. The only family I had in the area was my ex's family. I'm actually going to go volunteer ata church and hand out food. I figure if i don't have much to sya thanks for, at least I can celebrate the giving part!
