Tat Care MadorSad: I got some new ink on friday and well it has been a few years any way when I got my last one they told me to keep it covered for a week and keep Neosporien (SP) on it and never put lostion on it untill it was way heald.
Now the new one they say leave it uncovered use A&D for 3-5 days then put lotion on it for a week or so ???
Any of you people know why I mean my old tats still look great so why the change now ???
Re: Tat Care Crystal_Blue_024: I have 5 tats... And I've always been told just to keep it covered for the same day then don't bandage it after that... They also told me NO NEOSPORIN, and just to use lotion with no fragrances/deoderants, etc. I used Lubriderm.

Re: Tat Care big_daddy: A very light coating of A&D and lotion basically serve the same purpose, the effects of the A&D are just a little bit longer.
But you have to be careful with the A&D, if you can see it, its too thick. You want to keep the tat from drying out, you don't want to keep it moist though. It's a fine line.
Too dry and it increases the risk of scabbing, sores, and infection. Too wet and the colors can bleed, as well as increasing the risk of infection. Perhaps the most important thing is just remembering to rinse it with soap and warm water 3 times a day. I saw a tat take a nasty turn that didn't get cleaned enough...it wasn't pretty at all.
It shouldn't be covered after the first hour or so if you're using the A&D or lotion. The old method of thinking with covering it was the same basic idea (moisture control), but it heals much faster when exposed to the open air.
Re: Tat Care chaotic: I think they realized that neosporin was clogging the pores and preventing the healing of the tattoo area.
I use a water based lotion. No fragrances, no sunscreens. My last one I washed it with soap and water twice a day and rubbed a very thin layer of lotion on it each time. It was completely healed in only about 4 days.
Now I just need to add some new ink....Thanks for making me think about that again.
