I've heard this theory a lot on this board, and I always wondered why the men weren't too upset by it. I mean, we should all be with someone who's at our same maturity level, right? They say women mature faster than guys, emotionally, mentally, etc. So basically that rule always made me think that a 30 year old man has the same maturity level as a 21 year old female. Doesn't that irk you men? ???

That's a non-sequitur. You've posited your own theory ("we should all be be with someone who's at our same maturity level") and then tacked that theory onto this thread which is not dealing with maturity level, but 'age a guy should be with girl wise'. The age of the girl doesn't necessarily have to do with her maturity factor, and a guy's priority might not be finding a girl at his maturity level.
Granted, this entire theory is just that, somebody expressing their own preference (for whomever made it up). But let me say this. I'm not sure I would want to deal with women my age after I split for good. Almost to a tee they're all divorced (which is fine) but also very, very bitter, bordering on man-hating (for whatever reasons), cynical and jaded. Me, personally, I could do with a bit of innocence and happiness in a partner, without having to delve down and mine it out of her like it was some rare gem in a dark, dank coal mine of angst. If there are exceptions, naturally I'd consider them, but I'm wagering, based on my peer group knowledge right now, that those women are few and far between. Far more common are the wine drinking group-bashing cynical types who sit around jeering "men are dumb!"

True I combined two theories. Thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss.... :P

Oh, well ok, fair enough.
To address that then, I can see where I could gain a lot by forming a LTR with a woman my age, from a maturity standpoint. There would be a lot of shared history, references, cultural attitudes, etc. On the other hand there is also the jaded and cynical aspect I see in a lot of *people* my age (note I didn't just say women) that I'm not really sure I wish to deal with any longer on a one on one daily grind basis. I suppose I know too many divorced people or something, but the attitudes I see are disheartening, to say the least. There truly is something to be said in a positive sense for a fresh face looking at life with wonder and happiness, and not a resigned, cold hard calculating stare, that attracts me to younger women in general. Obviously there are exceptions, but if we're shooting the odds here, well, the odds are I'm more likely to find that unbound optimism in a younger rather than older woman. Keep in mind I'm 39 y/o guy thinking the range would be 25-32-ish, not some 55 year old guy lusting after an 18 year old here.
Does this mean I'd only consider younger women? Hell no. Each individual stands on her own merits. But odds are I'm more likely to meet that happy, uninhibited and optimistic person in a younger woman in a quicker amount of time than I would sifting through the large crowd of angst and anger filled "my age" women.
Thoughts?
Re: math for men C-Note: What about us adult-lescent? I'd have to divide by 3 or at least 2.5. I'm a big kid. All those times I'm caught watching cartoons with my kids.. Ummm errrr. I'm just making sure the content is suitable. The time with the toys.. Umm same thing.. you can never be to safe these days. I had to thouroghly check out that remote cantrolled car.
Older men have been trying to set in stone it's ok to bang younger chicks since the dawn of time. I think you women have a huge lightbulb go off in your head when you figure that out too. Lord knows I see many of you driving nice little miata's and 2 seater beamer's that suga daddy bought ya. Katherine Zita and Michael Douglas.. ::)
Re: math for men allilm: That would mean I should be looking for a 50-year-old. No thank you.
