90 day waiting period?
.

90 day waiting period? wings: Has anyone else needed to deal with a "waiting period"?

In Oregon they have a 90 day waiting period.
After me and my x FINALLY came to agreement of everything, signed all the papers, done a million other things, etc etc... we've submitted it all to the courts, and they won't touch it for 90 days.
It won't get processed, so I cannot be legally divorced for 90 days from the date we turned in paperwork.

This waiting period is screwing up my finances. I'm trying to get a loan so I can buy my own house and MOVE OUTTA HERE, but since it's not officially over and I can't officially get my money, I'm on hold.

Does anyone know of any way to bypass this 90 day thing?  what did you do to deal with this?

thanks for any insights.

Re: 90 day waiting period? YellowJacket: I think just about every state has one.  It's 60 in Texas.

I don't know of any way to bypass it and I doubt there is one.  Putting in a way to get around it would pretty much defeat the purpose of having it.

Re: 90 day waiting period? tara: 120 days from the date of filing in WI.

That's why here, you file first, then negotiate, then either send in the settlement or go to trial.

Oh, and here, the waiting period will only be waived in an emergency (you need to get away from your abuser, or someone who is embezzling from you, etc.). Your loan difficulties probably wouldn't qualify here, sorry to say.
Re: 90 day waiting period? just_me_detroit: 6 months here if you have kids. But that is from initial filing.
Re: 90 day waiting period? genesplicer: Our waiting period here in VA is 6 months with no children, a year if you have them.

Waiting period is before you can file though, it was less than three weeks to court after the papers actually went in.
