Is it possible to be friends?
.

Is it possible to be friends? leikitornot: Long story short, stbx had an affair, moved out in late October, and is still seeing OW.  Since we have two small children together, we try and do things together (eat dinner, go to the circus, etc.).  During these outings we get along just fine.  We even laugh and talk openly about everything that's going on.

I have up and down feelings about the whole situation, but we both agree that we need to make life for the kids as great as possible.

So, is anyone actually friends with their ex?  Is it possible, or am I just setting myself up for future pain?  I am not in love with him anymore, and although he claims he still is with me, I don't see us getting back together.

Re: Is it possible to be friends? ibelong2me: I know that it is possible.  I am friends with my son's father and I actually believe that if the mother and father can remain friends or at least civil to one another this is the best thing for the children.  It also teaches them some great lessons for life.  Just my opinion.

Re: Is it possible to be friends? tara: I'm friends with my ex -- and we barely missed a beat; my SO is friends with his (although it took them a lot longer to come around).

It can work if you both want to be friends, and you neither expect nor desire reconciliation. If your ex is still in love with you it might be tough -- friendship might have an ulterior motive for him (whether he's aware of it or not).
