No matter the facts, they will find some convoluted way to discount or minimize them in their minds. It's sad and pathetic, actually. You handled this phone call WAY better than I would have. First thing I would have said,
"OK, let's say you are right- your son DIDN'T have an affair. He still chose to leave the marriage and based on YOUR religion, that's wrong and I'm the victim. Are you saying that you NO LONGER believe in your religion? And EVEN IF you no longer believe in your religion, why would you be angry at me for believing in your religion, which you once so fervently accepted as truth? And why would you NOT tell me what I've done wrong? What would you (or your son) have to lose by telling me what I did wrong now."
You should give me their phone number. I'll blow their delusion and pathetic defense mechanisms out of the water.
