Re: An idea for kids to eat? cdoulatiff: they've always eaten that.....believe me...sometimes ketchup gets added to stuff that doesn't look appetizing to me....but if it gets eaten then I don't care what kind of condiment they put on it!

I've found that telling my kids "you have to make an honest try of trying everything I serve, before you can say no" works, as LONG AS it's under the assumption that I'm not going to force them to eat it "all gone" if they don't like it.

I like that idea. I'll try that.

It seems to work. By "honest effort" I mean they have to take a real bite, chew it up, and swallow it. Not one of the kid nibbles where their actual mouth doesn't touch the food things. As long as the rules are consistent and they know I'm not arbitrary or going to pull the "you're gonna eat it or else" strict-dad schtick, they go along just fine. :)
Re: An idea for kids to eat? yella: I'll bet your kid isn't as stubborn as my kid. ;)
Mine won't try anything new, no matter how many spins you put on it. So, I'm very interested in what others have to say here too.
Re: An idea for kids to eat? fkunone: plusca - that sounds like a fair trade off. I was raised on "Eat or Die."

Maybe not. But your menu is probably bigger.
Re: An idea for kids to eat? Melbel: I have a similiar problem with my son not wanting to eat what I cook. After talking to his doctor said to make whatever it is you would normally make (I would always make the kids a seperate dinner) but have 1 thing on the table that they like. This can be a fruit, veggie anything healthy and only give them half a glass of milk. I also took away junk nights (alternate everyother day between healthy bed time snack or a treat) I took this away for about 2 weeks and one night at dinner I said If everyone tries their dinner and eats a fruit and a veggie they get a treat tonight. This did not work the first few times but when they knew I wasnt messin around on not getting a treat...IT WORKED!! They didn't eat all of it but they tried it.You have to try something a few times before you like it and if it is not made into a big production...that makes it alot easier. Always reward for trying, we all like hearing it!
Good luck!
