Christmas...the new four letter word??
.

Christmas...the new four letter word?? Chey: Ok...totally my own opinion and I desperately need a soapbox for this, but I am TOTALLY fed up with being wished a "Happy Holiday" or "Happy Festivities".  I miss the Merry Christmas greeting I used to get and see all the time.  I now live in a city where it's not PC to use the word Christmas because it might offend someone.

Well you know what, I'M offended.  I feel persecuted now.  I want my Christmas back, and I want to say it with pride.  I'm not saying it to be prejudice or belittle anyone, I'm saying it because I love Christmas and everything it stands for.

Joy, Peace, Happiness, Family and Love.

Sorry but I'm taking Christmas back!

Merry Christmas everyone!
Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? yella: That's been debated all over the radio up here, and I agree, I miss Merry Christmas too!

I'm waiting for them to discontinue Christmas cards next.  ::)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!  ;D

Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? big_daddy: People wonder why there is no Christmas spirit left...

We're not allowed, so f'n lame.

We should start a petition to Bring Back Christmas!
Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? Topaz: I can understand the sentiments, but living as I do, in a predominantly West Indian/African-American/African neighborhood that borders an almost exclusively orthodox Jewish neighborhood, and seeing things through the eyes of my 6 year old, who is really excited about all the different holidays she sees being commemorated, I am also enjoying the spirit of inclusiveness.  As they say where I live, "It's all good in the hood!"

I don't see the holidays as being mutually exclusive.  While we celebrate Christmas, we also have a lot of Jewish relatives, and since my daughter is part black, we like Kwanzaa, too.  Africa has made so many contributions to the world; it's great to celebrate that.  We'll go to my father's house for Christmas tomorrow but we'll be eating latkes and jelly doughnuts and lighting candles for Chanukah with my sister in law and her 2 kids at my dad's house, too.

Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? Lumpy:  Frankly, I don't get it. Have you actually ever experienced someone getting angry once hearing that phrase? Back when I worked at Costco I often said Merry Christmas as a greeting. I never got an offended response. Maybe "Thanks for the sentiment, but I'm X (Jewish,Muslim, Buddhist, etc)". Often times they would answer with the appropriate phrase for their religion. Never had a problem with this.
