Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? kitkat: Meh, I smatter all of 'em "Merry Christmas" "Happy Holidays" "Happy Kwanza" etc...
I don't think people in general get offended BUT I can uderstand retailers not wanting employees to say one particular religious greeting or another BECAUSE we live in a sue happy world and there are people who would try to get some cash.
Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? icwtsmnl: ok, how would you feel if everyone started saying to you "Happy Kwanzaa" or "Happy Hanukkah" instead of "merry xmas" or "happy holidays"?
you'd be like, "well uh, thanks, but that's not what I celebrate" (even if you only think it). well that's how the rest of us feel when we're bombarded with "merry xmas". its not about being money hungry or suing.

I neither said nor implied that. I'm agnostic for Pete's sake. If you re-read you'll see I'm saying don't worry so much. State YOUR holiday greeting (whatever that may be) and most people won't be offended. I don't get offended when offered holiday greetings that aren't mine nor have I really run into anyone who does. What I was saying is that Chey may not see it out in retail establishments BECAUSE of the suing issue. In other words don't take offense to the fact that retailers rightly cover their butts.

No, actually I'd say, "Thanks, you too!" because obviously they were simply trying to share a nice sentiment with me, so I will do the same in return. I am not one to look at others kindness and good tidings and assume that I should criticize their assumption of my religion, its obviously something that is important to them, so I simply wish them the same in return.
I do this almost every day at work, and have zero problem with it, even though the only one I celebrate is Christmas.
Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? icwtsmnl: KITKAT -- my post wasn't really directed at you (except the retail/suing part).
but maybe retailers tell employees to offer general greetings not because of fear of lawsuits, but because they are having actual consideration for those who don't celebrate xmas.
BD- yes, i simply say "you too" because i don't care enough to correct them and give them a lecture on assuming people's religions. but in the big picture, i think the consideration of other people's religions is fair, not anal.
i'm sleepy.
