Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? Topaz: Exactly, Lumpy!

People often think I am Jewish and wish me Happy Hanukkah.  I either say, I'm not Jewish, but thanks, or more often than not, just thanks.
Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? fkunone: Yeah, well, being a Wiccan, I don't understand why there isn't enough merchandise on the Winter Solstice.

Happy Winter Solstice EVERYONE!!!

Re: Christmas...the new four letter word?? Chey: I have no issue with inclusiveness Trixie...and in fact Toronto is one of the biggest culturally diverse cities in the world.  I love that about this city, and totally enjoy the different cultures we have here.

What I DO have an issue with is feeling that it's not ok for me to celebrate what I love, for fear of looking like I'm deliberately excluding another culture.

General people on the street have no problem with it either.  It seems that our governments are making an issue of out this, that doesn't exist.  Airports taking trees down for instance.  The biggest protest AGAINST removing the tree came from the Orthodox Rabbi who said actions like that INCREASE racial hatred because people will believe the trees came down at their request.

People seem to manage just fine.  We seem to be able to respect and admire other cultures and enjoy the diversity.  It seems that when the government gets involved we all of a sudden become so anal retentive PC that rather than increase the tolerance, it decreases it because it shines a light where none is needed.

My colleage and I always exchange greetings at Christmas.  I wish him Merry Christmas, he wishes me Happy Hannukah.  Neither of us are offended, and I feel very happy with this.

Ok...totally my own opinion and I desperately need a soapbox for this, but I am TOTALLY fed up with being wished a "Happy Holiday" or "Happy Festivities".  I miss the Merry Christmas greeting I used to get and see all the time.  I now live in a city where it's not PC to use the word Christmas because it might offend someone.

Well you know what, I'M offended.  I feel persecuted now.  I want my Christmas back, and I want to say it with pride.  I'm not saying it to be prejudice or belittle anyone, I'm saying it because I love Christmas and everything it stands for.

Joy, Peace, Happiness, Family and Love.

Sorry but I'm taking Christmas back!

Merry Christmas everyone!

While I won't make a big deal if someone wishes me Merry Xmas, i always think to myself, "you shouldn't really say that until you know the person celebrates the same religion as you".  I don't take MAJOR offense to being wished merry xmas, but it does bother me a little that person just assumed i celebrate xmas.
