Re: Women bosses JimB: I've had male and female bosses, and been lucky enough never to have a huge problem with either. I did have one female boss, however, who was notorious for her inability to get along with female subordinates. She was almost certainly bipolar, and very unpredictable, but I (and other men) never had a problem with her. And there was nothing about it that could be considered even remotely sexual - just gender-based. Weird.
Re: Women bosses allilm: I stand corrected, I had another female boss, civil engineer, and she was really, really great. It was a summer internship and she was so nice, and encouraging and very empowering for someone still in school.

It didn't help that she was constantly calling in sick and half the time we didn't know where she was.

This kind of bothers me. It always has and it still does. When a person calls out sick (just a typical sick day, nevermind if the person calls out constantly) why does it have to be anyone's business at the office as to where the person is? I mean, work is work, there shouldn't have to be a reason why you have to explain to anyone WHY you called out sick.
I guess it bothers me because I once had this problem. And this company I had already accrued well over 3 weeks of sick days, and I would get asked all these questions by people, where were you, what were you doing, what was wrong with you?
That shouldn't have to be something you have to explain.
**Sorry I'm not bashing, I'm just curious as to why it's so important for other employees to know why another employee calls out sick**

Re: Women bosses PennyLane:
I've had female bosses except for one male supervisor when I worked part time switchboard at a hospital. He was cool. (
The boss I have now (21 years) is totally awesome. We even share an office. We work as a team. SHe's never treated me as an employee but rather her co-worker.
Re: Women bosses 2be: In my second job out of school (was there for 8 years), the Director of my department was a woman and she was the best boss I've had... simply fantastic. Then her son got sick with Leukemia and she had to quit... and her replacement was a man. While he was okay as a boss, he had a very "coach" attitude. C'mon team, let's pull together... a good offense is a good defense... sort of thing. Always talked about sports and related it to our department. Blech. Both myself and the other artist (another guy) would've rather talked about modern art and how it affects society rather than the Bears game and the boss couldn't quite understand why we weren't obsessed with golf. ::) But I guess we're just sensitive "artist" types. LOL
I now work in an office and am one of two men among 17 women. :o But I'm seperated from all the estrogen-driven drama and my office mate is about as drama free as a woman can get, so it's all good. And if anyone needs a file cabinet moved or heavy boxes lifted... guess who is called? ;D
