Re: Women bosses ionysis: I AM a woman boss and I must say I have to stop myself over-compensating and almost apologising for being promoted above all the men I work with. I try to maintain a democratic style of management where I work "with" people rather than having them work FOR me which seems to smooth things out although there's always the occasional person who thinks that means you're a push over and so whose neck needs stepping on now and again. I think ANY boss needs to lead by example and pull their weight but that it is even more important if you are a woman and want your male subordinates to respect you.
To be honest I've been a CRAP boss the last month going through all this with my ex because I haven't given my team any direction or pulled my weight properly at all. Got to get a grip on that I think...
Re: Women bosses clambakesX: Viewed in the history of time, having positions of power is pretty new for women. So it's not surprising that it's taking some time (and awkwardness and skinned knees) for us (I mean globally, over generations) to develop the skills and integrate various aspects of ... everything.
I've heard a lot of comments that I'm hard-@$$ed, tougher than some men etc, but I've also gotten great performance out of male employees who had pretty much sukt when managed by men. They didn't like me, but I saw and got them what they needed (e.g. structure) in order to be successful.
Re: Women bosses katbuttkid: Yeah I bet Medusa is hard to work for... snakes in the hair tend to turn you to stone, you know?
;)
I've had them both. Female, male.... Bosses all suck. Nothing you can do about it!
LOL
I'm kidding.
I've been lucky enough to have worked for some of the greatest nicest, most human people as employers, and that has made a huge difference.
I have to say that I DO really like it when the head boss is a man, and he looks nice, and is someone I admire and want to blindly follow....
but I always get a long with whoever I work for.
Sometimes it's the people I work WITH that are the problem.
Especially in those crappy sales jobs I had in my early 20's.
Being in nursing the past few years, well, it's mostly women, backwards and forwards. Some are great, some are catty. Just like in life, go figure.
