I'd suggest renting the movie Serenity first. If you enjoy the flick you should dig the show. You don't like the original Star Trek YJ? To me, that show set the ground work for Television Sci-Fi. I like the way they managed to work present day social issues into a futuristic setting. It got a little preachy at times but as a child it really got me into Sci-Fi.

Thanks, I've got that one on my list.  I'm looking forward to it.  I thought I was supposed to watch it after watching all of the show's episodes.

No, I didn't like Star Trek at all.  I couldn't suspend disbelief and get past all of the things that wouldn't really happen like the most important guys always going down with the scout party but never dying.  It was always Ensign Expendable.  Even more, though, is the stigma that goes with the show.  I've been around the Star Trek nerd types way too much in my life and that really turned me off to it.

My favorite character was Tobias Funke, the psychiatrist.

That guy is tough to watch.  The jean shorts alone are pure genius, though.

Re: Arrested Development allilm: I watched the first two seasons through Netflix too, but in time to watch the last season when it was showing.  Great show!

Re: Arrested Development surprised: I love AD.  Such a good show.  It made me have a crush on Jason Bateman.
