Was it actually canceled?  It seems to have run through the entire cycle from start of conflict (dad getting arrested) to dad escaping to reconciliation to the son and his son fleeing on a boat to escape the insanity.  I got the vague impression that the entire plot line was drawn out from first show to last prior to the first script ever being produced.  Might be wrong, but that was the impression I got, it was very seamless.
Re: Arrested Development surprised: No it was cancelled.  That's why the last season was so short.  And think how funny it would have been if it had been carried on, but with everything reversed.  The mom in jail instead of the dad.  My ex bought me the first two seasons, but we broke up before the third one came out.  I guess I'll have to buy it myself.

WTF?  Why was it cancelled, do you know?

Or should I guess here...it was too intelligently written and funny and far too over the heads of people who consider high comedy to be America's Funniest Home Videos?

Bingo!!  It was critically acclaimed, but suffered in the ratings.  It doesn't help that Fox constantly moved it around, so no one ever knew when it was on.

Damn.

This probably explains why Dead Like Me also stopped (except for re-runs).  Another one of the few shows I actually liked (it was on Showtime).
