If you really like a guy, a truly SINGLE guy, you're not going to just put it on the table like that. Or, I never have. Because it's risky.
It is easy to tell a man (when you're married) that if you were single, you'd totally date him.
Or it is easy to tell a taken man that you think he's hot or you would like to date him or whatever because you know that he's not going to go for it (or that he shouldn't!)....
