I'm gonna take up snowboarding.  Any tips or suggestions on equipment I'll need?

Well, to be honest, take a couple of lessons, I was better off for it.  They'll teach you how to fall so you don't break your wrists.  If you feel safer with wrist guards, be my guest.

Also, rent first and if you want, then buy equipment.  Find a resort w/ a package lesson/ticket/rent package.

Learn about layering your clothes for sports such as this.  Check out a few websites (you can google Layering for Snowboarding) and you'll be cool.  Burton has a nice guide (burton.com) as well as about.com.

Pick up Transworld Snowboarding magazine or some other one to peruse.  They have a lot of trick pics in them, but otherwise, you'll be able to see products.

Good luck. Be safe. And remember, if you're too tired, don't go back up on that lift.  Take a break.

Re: Snowboarding Crystal_Blue_024: I'm going skiing tomorrow!! Woot woot!!!!

4th time this season!!!! And we're getting dumped with snow AGAIN, so the snow is gonna be awesome!!!!!

Re: Snowboarding fkunone: Snkies,
Here's another thing.  CHECK YOUR CONDITIONS before you go.  Make sure it's a pretty good base > 24" for your first time out.  And make sure it's not dust on crust (light dusting on ice).  THAT's dangerous.
Re: Snowboarding fkunone: Resort food is EXPENSIVE.  Unless you love the convenience, go ahead and cook up some pasta the night before and make yourself a pasta salad that has some kind of protein (cheese, chicken, whatevah).  Keep it in your trunk to have it keep cold.  Break time - meal time.  TADA!
Re: Snowboarding fkunone: Oh, and stretch the living hell out of your legs and back.  You don't want to cramp up on the slopes.  It's a day killer.

Drink plenty of water the day before too and keep hydrated during the day.  You can get dehydrated easy despite it being cold.

Run into a cute guy.
