Re: Snowboarding trapped: BOOTS have GOT to fit properly and tight or you will destroy your ankles.

Youre gonna fall  A LOT at first...so much so that you will think you will never get the hang of it.

But then , BAM! You do...............and you will be HOOKED!!!!!

Ditto on the wristguards. Thats for all the falling obviously  ;)
Re: Snowboarding WhiskeyGirl: My daughter got into it last yr....she rocks btw ;) LOL

Anyway.....E-BAY!!!! Get all your stuff through there....specifically GalacticSnowSports.com.....I have had nothing but good experiences with them....and its top quality stuff hardly used...at a fraction of the price!

Have fun Girl!! I'm too old for that shit.....I'll stick to skiing ;)

If you want to go by my experience trying to learn to snowboard....I would suggest stuffing a huge fucking pillow down the ass side of your pants ;D

Re: Snowboarding trapped: Oh good point, its always better to try to fall backwards.......if that makes sense.
Re: Snowboarding Peaceandquiet: Just remember to wrap the pretzels
Re: Snowboarding katbuttkid: Hey! I'm always excited to hear someone is going tot ake this sport up. I LOVE to snowboard. Almost as much as I like sex.
LOL

So, it's all about your edges-- Toe (front edge) and Heel (back edge).

For your first few times, if you need to stop, dig your BACK EDGE in. Just press your heels in.  This is how to snowplow and go slow.
Don't ride the back edge for long or you'll scrape the snow off the mountian and everyone will be growly at you. Usually on the green runs, it's Ok, but elsewhere on the mountain, well, try not to.
But don't be suprised if you fall. It can be abrupt. Even when you're going slowly. Snowboards are slippery on snow!

As much as it's about edges, it's about gravity-- green runs are fun (dots, circles, whatever) for beginning skiers, but without poles I think it's best to hit a blue (square) run just to keep some momentum going (and remember your back  edge)-- keeping your nose (front foot) pointed down and rocking back and forth, slightly, between your heel and toe.
You get tired fast hopping along on flatter surfaces, or skating to the slope. And it can take a while. So, if you see a flat spot coming, keep your speed up.

Skiiing is super fun too, but it was never Alive for me like snowboarding. I don't know why that is.
I think it's the mental part. Like Trapped Girl was saying... you fall all the time at first, but you can't quit because you're making progress, and then you get a good day and you're like "Ah ha! This is what it's all about! Hell Yeah!"

Probably that is too much info.
Just know I'll be praying to the snowtroll to give you good conditions and a great first day~!
