I didn't expect to see you today. C-Note: I've heard this statement every year on this day ever since I started working for private companies.
It's a little weird that I don't have a comment in return that I'm comfortable with. I feel I should, but I don't.
Some Mexicans I know had similar comments tossed at them a while back. Something about demonstrating to protest against rights they should have and not showing up to work for that day.
Some showed, some were no shows. I never questioned their stance on the days significance to them. I guess like me, the one's that have work choose the dollar over observance. To those that stay home I guess we're sell-outs and to myself I guess the label fits well.
My own little tradition I started involves wearing my good suit on Martin Luther King day. I'll be on time and perform my duties quietly.
Re: I didn't expect to see you today. Temporary: I think you're doing what he would encourage, if he could speak to us now.
Happy MLK, Jr Day
