Re: Living Alone Now trapped: True just remember a new pet is a 10 plus year commitment! A security system may be the way to go if you dont think you have the time/resources/interest in a new pet.
For me, the more dogs the better but thats just me. ::)
And I agree~~~NO GUN!!!! This is just your nerves and new surroundings...no need to start packing heat, IMO ;)
Re: Living Alone Now foreverblue: Your fear is not unusual. To go from sharing a home with someone who makes you feel safe, to a new home alone, is a very huge deal.
A gun is not the answer for you, too many accidents happen when a gun is pulled out of fear. If you can afford a dog, understanding that the biggest expense is your time, then go that way. If you can't, try changing your routine. When I was on my own for the first couple of weeks, I showered in the morning, instead of the evening. I too, felt safer in the daylight. After awhile, when I had settled in, I went back to evening showers. When I couldn't afford a home security system, I bought 2 small alarms that hang on the front and back door door knobs. Not quite as efficient, but they did make me feel more comfortable. Do what makes you feel safe for now, no matter how foolish it may seem, and in time, this fear will pass.
Re: Living Alone Now sassonfool: I hear you!!! It was so freaky when I got my own place....I'll admit, I'm a big chicken when it comes to creaky sounds or wind howling!! I even put marbles on the floor so I would be able hear people coming in-yes it was crazy- but the heating vent blew the marbles one night and scared me half to death! (so don't follow that advice :) But I was lucky...I had a K9 shepherd and a Mastiff...but what about just putting 100watt bulbs in the front and back of the house? An alarm system is good- but pricey. What about one of those barking machines? I know that sounds silly- but I hear they work- just to let people know that you're not alone! If you can't buy a dog permanently what about "borrowing" a friend's big pooch and talking a walk so people see you with the dog and assume "Fluffy" guards you at night? Good luck! I'll know you will get used to the big house- just takes time :)
