Full Contact Fighting chaotic: So, I have been taking TaeKwonDo off and on for around 6 months. I have taken Aikido off and on for years. I also take Capoeira (not really all that fight oriented but fun.
My complaint with all of these is that while they are all good workouts, I have no real world application. So I have been talking to a friend who trains at a full contact fighting school / club. I think I am going to try that out. Its real full contact stuff. Grappling, kick boxing, etc. I really feel that it would be a good outlet for some deep seeded agression and a good way to build some self confidence. As well as just 1 more extreme activity to try.
Anyone here ever try full contact fighting? Anyone ever wanted to try it?
Re: Full Contact Fighting thejoker: I trained in MMA type crap for quite a few years..
The real world applications of Martial arts training should be increasing awarness of your body and spirit. it's more than just ass kicking.
find a style that fits what you want to achieve. If you want to hurt people.. go the full contact way. If you are just looking to feel that satisfied thump of landing a punch as opposed to the 'dancing' you have been doing. Go buy a heavy bag.
Re: Full Contact Fighting Crystal_Blue_024: Sounds like it could be fun... I dunno if I'd be into getting my ass kicked for fun, but it'd be cool to learn some real-world techniques... I've never been in a fight, and have NO idea HOW to fight, so I think it would be cool to take a class to be prepared just in case...

MMA is exactly where I am going. I have a heavy bag and in my TaeKwonDo class, we work with bags and kicking pads. But no actual sparring. Aikido we throw eachother around, but again, no actual sparring. I really feel the need to spar and actually have to defend myself. It is something I have been finding myself needing to do. Just another way of pushing my physical limits beyond my comfort zone.
Re: Full Contact Fighting thejoker: Chaotic.. just come out to CT... come to my bar... I'll set you up as a bouncer on a Saturday night. you can try out your "real world applications"
But all jokes aside.. I know what you mean. Just be prepared.. some of these guys have real anger issues and like to hurt people. Hopefully the knowledge and training you have already will help you there. Just relaying my experience.
I trained in Jujitsu, Integrated Grapling, Jeet Kun Do, Kun Tao, and Kali/Escrima. A few of the guys I work with at the bar do grappling, taekwando jujitsu stuff... I try not to spar with them. You'll figure it out.
