Re: How Important Is Religion When Dating? PennyLane: fortunately you both didn't persue things and have kids involved.
Having kids with that difference would have been chaotic.
Re: How Important Is Religion When Dating? Beren: I loved my sweetie, but the gap between agnosticism and Islam was too hard to bridge. :(

You simply cannot have conflicting philosophies of life in one household.
[/quote">
I think you can have contrasting views, but not completely contradictory ones. I couldn't date anyone who thought I was going to hell, for instance (I'm culturally Jewish, religiously agnostic) but I could date someone who practiced a religion, so long as their interpretation of it was "many paths" vs. "one true faith." In practice, this has meant I've stayed away from fundamentalists (of any religion, including Jews) and gravitated toward either "lapsed" Christians or agnostics/atheists. And, even though I've been known to poke my head in the tarot-card tent at a carnival, I'd probably also have a problem with someone who took new-age stuff a little too seriously. (I'd be fine with a Wiccan, not so fine with someone who let his newspaper horoscope dictate whether he'd go to a restaurant or a baseball game that day.)
Re: How Important Is Religion When Dating? kitkat: I think basic philosopy of life is FAR more important that the dogmatic details of "I'm a _____" . Two people can have vastly different religious beliefs but if their core values jibe they'll get on far better than two who have the same religious title and conflicting values.

I suppose my lack of belief is important to me.
[quote"> That kind of attitude will limit you to dating only people with the exact beliefs as you. If you can't be interested in them and their point of view just becasue it differs from yours....well then maybe you should limit your search to atheists only.[/quote">
Its not the difference in belief that gets to me, its the unwillingness of the other person to tolerate my beliefs. That why I stated in the OP that regular run of the mill religionists are no problem. That why I also stated that its the huge fallacies that people make that bug me, not the religion itself.
I find religion fascinating and enjoy the alternate beliefs people have. Its just the intolerance and the wild out of control beliefs that bother me.

Oh, of course. I would never claim that I know the secrets of the universe or that I know exactly what happens after you die. Honestly, I don't know for sure, nobody does. I'm just going with what the evidence suggests.
[quote">
Even though I have strong beliefs about such things I have never closed my mind to considering others views or simply wrote them off as B.S.....that would make me ignorant :-X[/quote">
Not necessarily. If something is blatantly wrong, its not ignorant to call them on it.

Why? I'm curious why its important.
[quote"> and it is a nice thing for a family to do together.[/quote">
I agree. I have fond memories of going to church as a child (of course, mixed with numerous memories of wanting to sleep in or stay at home and play instead!)

l0progression, my advice is, either find god or just date atheists.
[/quote">
Tried the first, that didn't work. Would love to try the second, but it seems like there is not too many of them out there.
