Are you sure you're not mad at him? You didn't just bury it in your head, only to smoulder...and erupt years later along with other unspoken stuff and be one of many reasons for your next divorce?
At least tell him how you feel. There's that "lack of communication" thing that is the downfall of so many relationships. Even though it's only been a month...it's good practice!

I know hes sick of stbxh and the fact that he is still such a presence in my life. He needs to understand that I am not officially divorced yet, its only been 7 months and my kids (and me) are still hurt. Not to mention stbxh texts me alot still. But that is the reality of my messed up life.
Maybe men are not worth it.

If you're either, then you definitely need to talk to him. It's not going to simply "go away". "The easiest thing to do is nothing". But it's not the right way to handle this.

Ok, I might be overly dissecting this. Maybe he resents your situation and therefore his advice regarding your daughter is clouded due to his own feelings about it.

I have absolutely no idea why ex still calls and texts. I never make contact with him. He is the one who walked out. And usually about once a week or so I get the ILY, I miss you texts. I have learned thru alot of pain and heartache that he may mean he loves me, but not enough to make the changes. Like alot of others say....actions speak louder than words. I waited 6 long months before I decided to give up. And all he did was flipflop back and forth in my life (hence my name).
