Re: Valentines Day is going to be a long one.... Beachchick: Hi sad_dad...
I would love to be your Valentines....:) Just remember you aren't alone out there...there are LOTS of us, who had a different life last year, or even two years ago.
You should get out of the house that night. Or if you have kids...take them out. Just do something to keep busy, and not dwell on what could have been. I don't know what I'm going to do yet, but, I'm thinking I will take my Dad to dinner. He is 70 and alone (Mother died), and he is the one that set the pace for Valentines Day. I can't remember when he didn't give me flowers or a card, just because.
blueyd1, your posting was fantastic. Some of us, aren't so lucky right now, but we're hopeful, we'll get to the spot you're in very soon....I have lots of hope and faith...!
You're right, we all deserve some good old fashioned TLC...!!
I just wish I wasn't such a sucker for this holiday....why can't I like Flag or Groundhog Day instead?
Re: Valentines Day is going to be a long one.... icwtsmnl: Last year I "had" someone to celebrate with. Let me replay it for you.
- we were together for 6 months, so I thought it was safe to ask if we were going to do something on Vday. I was later accused of "just assuming" we were going to hang out together.
- i went through a huge amount of inconvenience to get him an edible treat he liked. nothing fancy, just a nice treat. and a card. not too mushy, but sweet.
- he showed up empty handed. He did nothing, showed nothing, said nothing.
Do I have to deal with let downs, disappointment and hurt feelings this year? nope.
Re: Valentines Day is going to be a long one.... whythisnow: I used to love to get stuff for my ex but towards the end hated it.
Now I have a new GF and we have been together almost a year. This will be our 1st V-day.
So, what should I get?
1) Champagne ( she loves champagne)
2) Flowers ( i get her flowers about every other week)
3) Godiva Cholocate ( covered strawberries)
4) jewlery (something from Tiffany's)
5) card -- ( with love poems I wrote)
6) Toys --( something alittle kinky to spice up the bedroom)
7) all of the above. ( $$$$ little heavy considering we go out twice a week for dinner and I am taking her to away for a week during spring break )
Re: Valentines Day is going to be a long one.... blueyd1: Beachchick -- totally continue to have faith! It carried me through. I was devastated (and shocked) when my husband suddenly walked out on our marriage, and I thought love would elude me. Now I can honestly say I love my SO more than I loved my ex. And I NEVER thought that would happen.
FIDO -- wow! You are quite the gift giver! My advice: if you're going to give her flowers, give her something completely out of the ordinary. Like if you give her roses a lot, change it up with some wildflowers. And I have to say the best present I ever received was a handmade card with a letter from the heart. It melted me more than a million chocolates or pieces of jewelry could. And it still melts me when I read it today.
Most of all, have fun!!
Re: Valentines Day is going to be a long one.... jmarie: Fido--
What about one of those pretty floating heart necklaces from tiffany? Those are so pretty and look nice with everything because they are sterling silver. If you're low on cash get a smaller one, otherwise get a medium one. I think they are the Elsa Peretti hearts--they are really classy.
Best,
J
