fear of the dental drill alonewith2: I guess my daughter suffers from dental drill anxiety.
In November, the dentist said that he would give my 3 year old daughter one more chance. That chance was today, and she didn't fare too well. She's fine with the Novocaine shot. She doesn't flinch, doesn't say ouch, or anything. But when he starts that drill up....she starts to fidget and carry on.
So now the dentist wants to send her to a dentist who specializes in Pediatrics so that she can be given a sedative or whatnot. All of these places are about an hour away (nothing local).
Yay... ::)
Re: fear of the dental drill Fendann: Have her wear headphones so she can listen to music. My dentist used to do that for me when I was a kid, and he still does it for the kids that come in to get work done. It helps.
Re: fear of the dental drill JadedButtafly: you know it all depends on the dental assistant to, its her job not only to assist the dentist but to comfort the patients, when it comes to children there should be no doubt that she needs to do her job, or get out and give it to me lol I am such a good assistant ;) sometimes it is better to take them to a dentist that specializes in children... they definately know how to calm a child and make them feel comfortable. Even if it is an hr away....its' so worth it ;)
Re: fear of the dental drill alonewith2: This dentist office is in the next town over. My town's dentist office refuses to even see children. I really liked this dentist because he's excellent with children and he always calls every night after their appointments to make sure they are doing okay.
Since I live close to the border of NY state, the majority of the pediatric dentist specialties are there. However, I don't think my insurance covers those places out of state. :-\
I think one of the hospitals in our organization has denistry. I've talked with some of my coworkers and they take their kids there. So I'll see if I can get my daughter in there. AND since I have our dentist insurance, it should be covered! AND this hospital is only 45 mins away instead of a whole hour away... ::)
