I'm an IT professional, so I use the excuse that I need to stay on top of technology to validate me spending a bunch of cash on a computer...but I never buy top of the line parts. Usually, I'll go a couple steps down.. Like last November, I upgraded my PC to a dual core chip..I bought the 2.1 ghz intel core2 duo rather than the 2.8ghz one. My motherboard is a middle of the road MSI, but is very nice, I love it..it's got the Lakewood chipset from Intel, which happens to be the latest and greatest..
I've only had 1 "top of the line" pc, and that was a P2/400 I built, and it was running 2 days before the 400s were actually released. I went with a 9.1gb SCSI drive (IBM Ultrastar II, $1500 alone for just the drive), it was about $4500 all together for the system, but I used it and only upgraded my video card for 6 years..I remember playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein with decent resolution just fine, even though the minimum requirements was a P3 600.. :) It's all about good disk I/O..
I also gift myself my Jaguars season tickets every year because I deserve it, dammit! lol.
Re: The Pub 2/8 2be: Bicycling stuff. It's an expensive hobby for sure so any "fun" money I have remaining always goes to some new bike thing. I don't buy useless bike 'bling'... it is always something I need or something that has broken, but it adds up.

but the one thing i splurged on recently was my bedroom suite.
i always used to spend lots of time in my room. when i was with my ex, i didn't, and we had crappy old stuff. so when i got my own place, i wanted really nice stuff. so i went out, bought the thing i thought was the greatest, and didn't think a second of it. now, i spend tons of time in my room!
