Lisa Nowak - The Jilted Astronaut Batman: The media right now is having a field day with the story of Lisa Nowak, the successful space-shuttle astronaut who drove across the country to allegedly attempt to kidnap and murder her lover's rival.
Strangely, I'm feeling powerful because of this woman's story.
Let me explain.
My ex-wife had several affairs and is now married to her last adulterous lover. In the past, there have been plenty of times when I thought about doing violence in response. I never hurt her physically. I would never act on my impulses of violence that I felt when I discovered the affairs, but I absolutely understand where this Nowak woman could have been so stressed emotionally, so angry that she would make her cross-country drive to scare the other woman.
And guess what?! Lisa Nowak is a NATIONAL HERO. The astronaut program in this country has been THE metaphor for success in this country since the 1960's. Millions of little children want to grow up and be an astronaut. And Lisa Nowak DID IT. She even went on her space flight in July!
So, the media is asking itself over and over how someone raised so high in the eyes of society by her career could fall so "low."
My answer is: She's HUMAN and human beings, when faced with the kind of stress that jilted lovers/spouses are faced with GO A LITTLE NUTS.
Firstly, I don't think she meant to kill the other woman. I just think she wanted to scare her. This is bad, but I don't think it's a felony. Attempted murder? Yeah right. She just squirted the chick with some pepper spray.
Secondly, I SOOOOoooooOOOO understand how she could be driven to do what she did.
Our country trained this woman to be determined, focused, and strong ... and now it seems the media is trying to pull her down and make her out to be the bad guy.
Sorry, but I find myself applauding her! She makes me feel normal. I, too, was unstable there for a while after I found out about the affairs. My ex, of course, and all her friends would portray me as being some sort of monster. Some people would say Lisa Nowak is a monster. Nope. That's just a good look at human nature.
Now I neither condone nor understand whatever twisted love-triangle, cheating-on-your-husband, crazy things those women and men in the space program were doing.
I do know this, however: If you mess with OPP be prepared for some unstable emotions, and possibly violence.
Every time I see one of those stories on the news where a jilted wife or husband does something horrible to the cheater ... well ... I used to sit there in shock, judge, and say to myself, "That's crazy!" Now, I just say to myself, "I completely understand how that could happen. That's serious business." I'm not a violent man, but I don't judge those people anymore.
Anyways, had to get that off my chest. I feel like Lisa Nowak did everything that society asked her to do ... mom, wife, astronaut (!?)... and she STILL was a mess because some guy told her he loved her and he bonked someone else.
Be warned, all ye wayward lovers. Some of those people you're jilting won't take too kindly to it.
Re: Lisa Nowak - The Jilted Astronaut pluscachange: Um...she was cheating on her husband, and then went out to settle a score with a woman who was cheating with the guy she was cheating with.
No pity. I hope she goes down in flames and is never heard from again. QED
Re: Lisa Nowak - The Jilted Astronaut Temporary: Is it ok if I don't care about this woman at all?
Nkay ;D
Re: Lisa Nowak - The Jilted Astronaut Batman: Wow, you're quick to judge aren't you!? LOL. Do you know all the details? Yeah, cheating sucks and I think more than one person in that triangle (rectangle?) was married. And, oh, she's DEFINITELY going down in flames.
Why, though, does the media seem shocked by this? This same kind of sh1t happens every day, and it's happened to half of us on ojar! The only difference is that she's an astronaut, a symbol of success.
Sorry, but I'm kind of enjoying the public recognizing that even our elite go nuts when it comes to OPP.
