Kitchen Remodeling ctrlaltdelete: Anybody have any $$ saving tips on how to remodel your kitchen on a shoestring budget?  Refacing is not an option, so I'm looking for good deals on kitchen cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances, etc.  Any new and creative ideas out there?

I'm trying to sell my house in a couple of months, but the kitchen is horrible. I don't want to spend a zillion dollars on it, but want it to look good enough to appeal to a buyer.  Ideas?
Re: Kitchen Remodeling ace1234: It's amazing what your kitchen can look like by just changing the countertop, sink and faucet and maybe getting some new knobs or pulls.
Also, fix any drawer slides that don't work, and get some new hinges if you have to on the doors.
You could reface the cabinets yourself if you are handy or feeling adventurous.  It does take alot of time and effort though.  You have to sand down the doors and then paint or stain them.  Many times.
Or, you could look into buying a display from a kitchen cabinet firm.  Many times they change their displays to stay current and they sell the displays, which are new at way lower prices.  Just make sure it works or can be re-configured in your kitchen.  See if one of their installers could do it on the side?
Good Luck.

Re: Kitchen Remodeling Melbel: Well I remodeled my kitchen and I can tell you where to spend your money...IMO

Things that I spent money are on are Pergo flooring, Granite *12x12 squares, easy to handle compared to a slab and cheaper* , and last but not least lighting!!  All these things are what buyers will look at and get most or all of your money back.
Re: Kitchen Remodeling just_me_detroit: I had hold cabinets. I painted them and replaced the doors. I purchased oak doors online and finished them myself. It came out looking really good and I only spent about $500.

I also installed a wood floor about a year before, but that cost quite a bit and was a lot of work to do.
Re: Kitchen Remodeling flipflopnomore: I agree.  If you can update your flooring that is a big plus.  If a hardwood floor is too expensive, go the laminate.  I have hardwood, but some friends just put in a laminate floor and it looks incredibly real.  Easy to install and easy to clean.

Granite countertops are the way to go too.  Make sure you have a good installer though.  I have seen some botched jobs where the seams of the granite show and it looks bad.

If you can, refinish cabinets and put new knobs on.

To me, dumping money in your kitchen is well worth it when you go to sell.  It really pays off.
