I can see where the teacher would be concerned even if he is not her teacher. There is an unequal professional relationship between a teacher/professor and a student. This is a ripe field for sexual harassment concerns. Even if the professor does not have deep pockets, the university may and harassment suits are quite expensive not to mention the poor publicity factor. I can't imagine the teacher's employer would look kindly on their relationship at all.
