Re: Should you pay to be rescued? craez: i'd take a fattie and some cheetos right now.

i want a receipt from the government detailing EXACTLY how MY taxes were spent.

i don't have kids in the education system. i don't get any government healthcare. i DO drive on highways....

so where the heck is my money going?
Re: Should you pay to be rescued? katbuttkid: Your tax dollars SO RARELY "fund stupidity" when it comes to climbing. That is my whole point.

The rescuers... they can find a new job if they dont like it. I might not like unplugging someone's impacted colon, but it's part of my job description. I can find a new job if I get too weirded out by it.
My tax dollars really are being spent on lameness in a very real way... people every day deciding to hit the bottle rather than be productive contributers to society. I COULD just refuse to take care of them, but I'm ethically obliged to do what I can AND treat them with dignity and respect.... yes, an analogy, I know... sorry. It helps me be clear. Not only is it my tax dollars, but my personal TIME and energy goes in to helping detox people who just go right back out and drink again. Talk about people who shold be fined! They don't contribute much, if anything. Gambling with their health and being unproductive.

At least climbers are productive and contribute to society. Did you know that a lot of professors, doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists, etc climb for a hobby?

Why you would penalize them is just being mean. You don't like them, think they are dumb, and the $2 of yours that went to last years' taxes  and helped pay for their rescue just eats at you.
Dude.... I'm sorry.

It's like you have a personal bone to pick with the lifestyle, with climbing, and climbers, anyone who chooses risks over safe TV and video games.... I guess that's Ok.
But still think you should learn about it!

Re: Should you pay to be rescued? Lumpy:   I'm kinda torn on this one. I can certainly understand the state requesting some sort of payment from the rescued. Maybe they could adjust that bill based on the rescued persons' ability to pay?
Re: Should you pay to be rescued? smokin: running to store, to get cheetos!
