Thats a good idea but wouldn't work. The people doing most of this are premium. There are a couple of legitiment posters that might be hurt by this. A certain smurf comes to mind. However I think they those people would understand if it gets the board under control again. The recent activity is going to start driving people away, soon.

I'm glad you said this (the second sentence) because I wasn't gunna. lol. I will say I think there's an easier way to handle this: Punish those who are causing the problem.

Hijacking a thread is a somewhat sticky problem. Who is to say that a "hijack" isn't a natural progression of the thread? A good example of what I'm talking about is the "statistics" thread in the Tell your story here forum..

http://ojar.com/boards/index.php/topic,41866.0.html

It starts off with someone asking what we think the percentages of women leaving men are.. and then just kind of naturally flows in to the percentages of the REASONS why women left. I don't see this as a hijack so much as a natural progression of the thread just like a normal conversation would flow. There were some attempts to hijack but they were ignored. If I would have said something like "I like tacos" in this thread, that would be a hijack, not a morphing of the thread into something different albeit slightly related to the original topic.

Seriously, though. Warn the people, then restrict THEIR postings. Don't punish everyone for a few trolls. :)
Re: How To Report A Problem On OJar.com Lady Phoenix: I have to agree with JMD.. something needs to be enforced. This board has gotten downright stupid. How many new members have joined recently? If most of you had came here for the first time and the whole board was just full of random thoughts would you have felt comfortable posting?

I have a friend that could really use a place like this and Im embarrassed to refer them here...I hate to say it.. because there is such a wealth of support to be given..but those that want to be trouble makers or just post about nothing all day long.. ruin it for everybody.

I thought premium was made for those posts that shouldnt be on the main board? So why doesnt most of this stuff get moved there? I honestly feel sorry for Michael.. he has a life outside of this place but still keeps it running because he knows how important it is to all of us and  those that will come along in the future...If I were him I'd probably just shut the whole damn place down for awhile ::)

I'm sorry I hate to sound bitter..but something has to be enforced..or there are going to be alot of people out there needing help, just like we all have, that are driven away by those that just want to cause trouble.

I'd rather read Tarheels old rants than some of this crap...  ::)

Just my opinion....

There is no perfect solution and there is no way that we can have 24/7 online moderators. In fact, everyone on this site is an adult and should behave as one.

Then again, maybe pigs will fly first.

Re: How To Report A Problem On OJar.com crushedman: This is a serious post.  The 'reporting' of threads has gotten WAY out of hand.

(IMO) Valid reasons for reporting a member:

1. threats
2. name calling
3. attacking someone's vulnerable point (i.e.- i can see why your your X left you)

(IMO) Invalid reasons for reporting a member:

1. opinions that you don't agree with
2. you don't like the member
3. the member is smarter than you

Re: How To Report A Problem On OJar.com crushedman: Wizer-

Thank you for your advice, but I have NOT hijacked this thread imo.

Pisces-

If anything, I think the advice in the main boards has IMPROVED over the past couple of years.  I wouldn't be ashamed to bring anyone to this site.  There are some incredible people here, myself included.
