In general the answer is yes, provided they are not in conflict with this sites Terms of Service.
I might add, the argument that "everyone does it" is not sustainable.

I have noticed that some people on this site like the idea of hijacking threads.
Somehow that seems funny to them.
This annoys many others.
OK, I think I might have a solution: a limit on the maximum number of posts per day.
Each 24 hours they will get a fixed number of posts they are able to create.
Every time they hijack a thread, the fixed number will be reduced by one till they hit zero.
Then they will go mute.
Attempts to create duplicate logins will result in a permanent ban from this site.
