Re: The Ojarian Exercise Journal to keep you motivated wizer_now: Thanks for the hijack/debate on my thread CM.

This is supposed to be an EXERCISE JOURNAL.

And I like my treadmill. I dropped 25 lbs doing a combination of 1/2 hour treadmill 3x per week, the AbLounge, and pushups...

But If I need more advice choosing the appropriate workout regimen, I know where to find you CM. You will be debating someone, somewhere....

JMD-

It depends on what your definition of 'fine' is.  It's probably the least productive type of exercise I can think of short of walking.  If you are going to put in the time, why not do something that's going to be more effective?

Oh okay? sure bud ... any sources on that? or do you know all?

Wow.  No I don't 'know all' but all it takes is a little common sense and you will see why it is so.  Go run a mile outside, then run a mile on your treadmill and tell me which one gave the better work out.  Try ANY other machine (i.e.- stairmaster, rowing machine) and tell use it for the same amount of time as a treadmill, then tell me which one is harder.  Most people prefer using the treadmill because it's the 'easiest' type of workout and therefore the path of least resistance.

That doesn't sound very scientific. I have read from many sources that say a treadmill is one of the most effective forms of aerobic exercise. And I would think that if you were to run equal distances on the treadmill vs. running outside and the treadmill is set to incline that it would naturally force you to work harder and burn more calories.

In addition, the treadmill surface is softer and spongier and will cause less long term strain to the legs. I have had problems in the past with "shin splints" and the treadmill seems to avoid that problem for the most part.

Here's some supporting documentation:

While there are many indoor exercise machines on the market, few compare to treadmills when it comes to health benefits and burning calories, an essential part of losing weight and getting in shape. According to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, treadmills easily outpaced an exercise bicycle, a rowing machine and a cross-country skiing machine.

Re: The Ojarian Exercise Journal to keep you motivated *Tricia: Hey CM,

i did your experiment today....usually i use the PRECOR EFX machine and can easily do 600 calories and 5.25 miles.  My machine was not available to me today :(.  I was forced to run on the treadmill.  I only did 3 miles and 350 calories.  I felt jipped and pissed off.  My workout was a waste of time in my eyes.

Does max weight get to include what you were while pregnant..?

i guess i'll be the first female to post because i'm proud of my hard work.
