Re: Officially divorced, finally MelanieW: Yes, feeling sad for my ex. When I met him, he was ambitious and hard-working, with a shine and a happiness. But I've seen anger and failure take over his life. I don't know if he has the strength and wisdom to re-invent himself and reclaim that sense of enthusiasm and possibility that he once had. Seeing him make bad choices again and again, it is a relief to know once and for all I'm not responsible for him, nor do I have to live with his choices anymore.
I understand how you feel. I have been basically watching my ex tun from someone full of life and goals, to a person ruled by anger and hate as well. For the longest time I allowed myself to be lost in HIS feelings. Until one day I realized that it wasn't my burden to carry. I admire the way you are moving on and handling things. Good for you!
Re: Officially divorced, finally opal66: I too watched my ex go from a great all around person to a hollow man consumed by anger and hatred. After trying to brighten his world, I came to understand that no matter what I did was not making him happy - a person can not express happiness unless they are truly happy with themselves.....that is the lesson I've learned from my divorce.
I do feel sad for my ex.......and sad for myself and children.
