Why do we kill each other whenever we speak to one another?

Why do we kill each other whenever we speak to one another? Beachchick: Yesterday was my birthday...I can't believe another year has passed.....

I hear from my ex today, who forgot it was my birthday, and asked me what I was up to....

I mentioned that yesterday was my birthday, and I felt really bleassed to hear from people I hadn't heard from for years. My friend from Bermuda called me to wish  me a Happy Birthday after not seeing her for 3 years! It just made me feel special, knowing, that after this shitty divorce, I have some really great people in my life.

My ex proceeds to tell me to stop giving him "digs" because he forgot my birthday. It wasn't my intention at all, he asked, and I shared something really great.

I told him, I was sorry he took it like that, and then he apologized, and said he "wished we could speak to one another without killing each other".

Why is it, that we have been broken up for 5 months, and EVERY single converstaion, or email we have had since has been a huge fight. Then it's usually followed up by a "I miss you".

I'm confused....do we fight because we miss each other, or do we fight, because we can't stand each other? I wonder if we will ever be civil.....

Re: Why do we kill each other whenever we speak to one another? Phyxius: Because at five months, it's still pretty much an open wound. There is a hidden (or not so hidden) emotional subtext to every conversation, every word spoken, and every word omitted.

Hell, it took me and my ex over three years before we could actually talk without all of the buried subtext spilling over into the conversation...  ::)
