How do you know this? Once again, in 15 years of dealing with divorce decrees EVERYDAY, I've NEVER ONCE seen someone thrown in jail for violating one.

Re: Looking at a decree violation wondering if anyone has answers... Fendann: Umm, I've heard of it...seen it first hand, too. The coworker sitting to my right side has just recently gotten out of jail by paying his court-ordered settlement. Minimum 30 days, maximum 90 days, according to the divorce decree. He's living, breathing proof that it can and WILL HAPPEN! Got locked up for 38 days for not paying a $1200 sum in the decree. He was let out last week.
Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean that it won't happen.
Re: Looking at a decree violation wondering if anyone has answers... td7629: I have alot of experience with this one...LOL... my ex was more than 30 days late paying his support... judge told him he had 2 choices... pay what he owes that very same day in court or he could sit in jail for 30 days.

That's what he TOLD you that happened, but what actually happened? If it was cs, it could happen. But for a divorce decree, I don't believe it. Do you know that I've seen divorce decree violations requiring payment of THOUSANDS of dollars, and no one can get anyone to do ANYTHING about them? Also, this doesn't make sense.. how the hell is he supposed to pay if he is in jail? I have seen capias warrants issued in the past and arrests made (not on divorce decrees but in some cases of defaulted judgement), but what typically happens is the person getting arrested is required to go before the judge. Judge asks the person how much more time they need, person begs for time, judge grants or denies it (9 out of 10 times grants it), and away the person goes. I'd bet that the person sitting next to you isn't telling you the whole story.
